Hello artists and art lovers,
Welcome to the first entry of my new art blog. So, what am I up to. I’ve started a new art group with some friends and we’re really excited about it. We started in January of this year and we already have a meeting place, a show planned and several projects, trips and other activities lined up. It is so refreshing to be able to share my passion with other open minded, progressive artists.
I’m working on updating my web site so look for the new version soon, www.carolynsims.com. I'm also deeply emerged in my new passion, fusing glass. I’m making pendants, earrings, tiles and wall hangings. It’s a fascinating art. Some might call it a craft but for me it’s art. With a craft, you learn how to do something well and keep repeating the same process the same way. I find it hard to discipline myself to doing that. There are so many beautiful pieces of glass and so many possible combinations, how can I possible limit myself to a few designs.
Crafting does make sense, though. I have a show coming up and it would make sense for me to cut a lot of pieces of glass the same size and decorate each one in an assembly line fashion. Instead, I start each piece from scratch, choosing the perfect combination of glass for that particular piece. It takes a lot more time the way I do it but that’s the artist in me.
I finished a small painting today. I started it yesterday. I haven’t named it yet. I read somewhere that this artist has committed to completing a small painting every day. I could do that but I don’t think I would. May be I will try 2 paintings a week. I will let you know how it goes.
